How to Delete History of Movies Watched on Netflix

By Luke Arthur, eHow Contributor Found This Helpful

Netflix allows you to easily stream thousands of movies to your television at the touch of a button, but when it comes time to delete a movie from your history, things aren't quite as simple. As of the time of publication, Netflix does not offer a way to delete a movie from your "Recently Watched" category. However, if you really need to get a movie title out of that list, you do have a few different options to consider.

Instructions

  • 1. Start several other movies on Netflix without watching them in their entirety. When you start a movie and it plays for any amount of time, it will show up on your "Recently Watched" list of movies. Once you play enough movies, it will push the movie that you want to remove from the list off of the "Recently Watched" category. The number of movies displayed can vary, but at some point, it will be removed from the queue.

  • 2. Navigate to your account information in your Netflix account. Then click on the "Cancel Account" link on the top right section of the page. At that point, you can navigate through the options to cancel your account. Once you cancel your account, it deletes all of the movies that were included in your "Recently Watched" list.

  • 3. Reopen your account with Netflix. After you cancel your account, you can immediately navigate back to the Netflix website and sign up for an account again. In fact, Netflix saves your personal information so that you can simply start your account back up again where you left off. The problem with this is that the process will remove the items that you had saved in your queue to watch later. While this may not be the most convenient option, it is the only way to completely delete the history of movies that you have seen on Netflix.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your Netflix settings allow your friends to see which movies you have watched, you can change your settings and make your account private so that they will not be able to see movies you watch any longer.

  • Even if a movie is removed from your "Recently Watched" category, the movies will still be available online in your "Instant Viewing History."
